The holiday pop-up bar trend is alive and well in Atlanta.
Some are decked out in tacky metallic garland and mischievous elves. Others are tastefully decorated with upscale wintery scapes. Either way, there’s something for everyone at these bright and cheerful holiday spots.
To help you navigate all the festivities, here is a list of some of this year’s holiday pop-up bars that you’ll definitely want to check out. So grab your tacky (or cashmere) sweater and get ready to untangle your tinsel at one of these fun spots!
The Blind Elf Experience @ The Blind Pig
A speakeasy located in the back of The Blind Pig Parlour, the Blind Elf is a holiday pop-up you won’t want to miss. The dining area is small and cozy and decked out in all the season’s festive decor.
Due to high volume, reservations for a table are required.
Table reservations are $65/person and include two cocktails and two small plates per person.
The plates are like tapas and may not be enough if you arrive really hungry. Additional items can be added a la cart for an additional price.
If you don’t want to make a reservation, the bar is first come, first served. This may be the way to go if you want to pop in for a drink, see the decor, and then head to another bar/restaurant.
Overall, a little pricy, but still a super fun, festive experience.
The Christkindl German Market
Located in Buckhead Village District, The Christkindl German Market is one of the more adorable holiday experiences you’ll find.
A cute little village made of wooden booths, this market is modeled after those you’ll find in Europe. A little less snow here, of course.
The market is full of delicious treats and cute, German shops. You’ll find all sorts of holiday necessities from toys to Christmas ornaments.
Inside the market, the Kathe Wohlfahrt gallery is a must-see– loaded with beautiful snow globes, nutcrackers, and every type of festive trinket you can imagine.
I highly recommend taking a tasting tour through this little town.
You’ll find crepes, brats and sauerkraut, and chimney cakes.
The latter is something I had never seen and consists of a funnel-shaped bread that is roasted over coals and then filled with fruits and whipped cream.
We actually went here prior to our Blind Elf Experience and ate so many treats throughout the village that we were stuffed when we got to the Blind Elf.
That’s not a bad way to do it, since the plates at the Elf are pretty small.
So, consider that a pro-tip and go load up on some Nutella crepes before you head over to your Elf Experience.
The Blitzen Room @ Biltong Bar (Ponce City Market)
Located in the food hall of Ponce City Market, this spot gets a LOT of traffic.
This is also one of the smaller bars you’ll find and definitely something to keep in mind when you’re planning your visit.
Get there early to get a seat or you could be waiting…a while….
That being said, Blitzen Room might be one of the less decorated spots, but they have a super fun holiday menu and delicious cocktails.
We got the hot chocolate, egg nog, and a winter mule. These did not disappoint.
An absolute must at Blitzen Room was the popcorn. Loaded with shredded parmesan cheese, house seasoning, and topped with biltong (a jerky-style dried beef, optional). I couldn’t get enough of this stuff!
We took my mom with us to this one and had a great time sitting, sipping, and chatting. Again, we ate elsewhere and used this stop as a little holiday treat.
I think stopping in for a quick drink and snack is the best way to approach this bar. This will also keep wait times down (as well as your bar tab).
No reservations were required and, since it’s located in Ponce City Market, you can grab some really cool, unique, last-minute gifts along the way.
Ponce has SO many things to see and do. That’s for another post entirely.
However, I will mention that the rooftop has igloos and ice skating, so keep this in mind if you are looking for winter activities even after the holidays!
Some other top-rated holiday pop-up bars you might want to try:
Miracle Bar (This pop-up requires COVID vaccine card or proof of negative test)
Santa’s Pub Pop-up at Publico Tap & Kitchen
Mele Kalikimaka at The S.O.S Tiki Bar
