Ahhh brunch. The perfect meal. So perfect, in fact, that I personally tend to make more brunch plans than dinner plans. I mean, what’s not to love? It’s beautiful balance between those savory and sweet breakfast entrees with the occasional midday dish. Feeling up for a cocktail? Brunch is that one place you can have alcohol in the morning with zero judgment. You’re likely to be more judged if you skip the mimosa, ya feel me?
All that being said, I take brunch very seriously, and so should you. To help you with this, I’m putting together this Insider’s Guide to the Best of Atlanta’s Brunch to help you navigate this delicious world of french toast and eggs benedict around Hotlanta. Now, this list is not exhaustive but is intended to be a living document–much like the Consitution. Did I just compare my brunch blog to the Consitution? Yes, yes, I did. What I mean is, I plan to add to this post over time as I explore and find more great places to add to this list. So, bookmark this bad boy and check back often!
Buttermilk Kitchen
This is my Old Faithful. An Atlanta brunch staple for sure. What I love about Buttermilk Kitchen is that it takes classic breakfast and brunch dishes and makes them more hearty, richer, and, somehow, more Southern.
Take the classic chicken biscuit, for example. Buttermilk’s biscuit is 1. Ginormous and 2. Perfectly seasoned. They then spread pepper jelly on the inside before they add their perfectly fried chicken breast. Add a side of palmetto cheese grits.
Oh. My. God.
Plan on napping in your car before driving home. The added palmetto cheese is a Southern touch that you hardly find anywhere else. Enjoy this addition to an omelet as well. If you don’t care for palmetto cheese, well, you’re wrong 😛
Delbar
This is one of my favorite places to take out-of-towners who come to visit. This middle eastern fare is unlike any other brunch experience. Everything is as delicious as it is beautiful.
Honestly, the charcuterie board keeps us going back again and again. Priced around $50, the board is easily big enough for 3-4 people to snack on. We order that along with breakfast pastries and always have more than enough.
If you leave here hungry, you only have numero uno to blame. Note that the menu can be complicated if you’re unfamiliar with middle eastern food. Don’t hesitate to ask your server to describe any item you’re curious about. I once showed my server an Instagram photo of what I wanted to try but didn’t know how to find it on the menu. She knew exactly what I wanted and hooked us up.
Snooze An AM Eatery
Snooze is a super fun dining experience. It’s a retro-themed diner with amazing staff, and everything we’ve had on the menu is good. I was especially awed by the Monte Cristo Brioche French Toast.
I went out on a limb for this one: It’s a classic french toast that is stuffed with shaved ham, Havarti cheese, and dijon mustard. It is served with a side of raspberry pepper jam. I recommend it with a side of syrup too. Dusted with powdered sugar. This is a brunch made in heaven.
Of note, they don’t carry regular Coke products but have their own Snooze version of Coke. I’ll let you be the judge of that one.
Tupelo Honey
For a chain restaurant, I was pleasantly surprised with Tupelo Honey. Like Buttermilk Kitchen, they understand Southern food, and they do it very well. By that, I mean, your mama’s cookin’ never had these flavors and spices, but you’re gonna wish it did.
Their cathead buttermilk biscuits and blueberry jam were alone worth the drive into the city. Note that the menu changes based on season and location.
The Flying Biscuit Cafe
Flying Biscuit might just be THE Atlanta staple. EVERYONE has been to Flying Biscuit, and there’s a reason why. They do breakfast classics, and they’ve been doing them well for 25 years. Sure, they have some fancy pancakes that they church up a bit, but overall, they know what’s good, and they leave those alone. If you’re looking for a down-to-earth, just good ‘ol breakfast, this is your spot.
Good Kitchen + Market
If you’re looking for a more health-conscious breakfast, Good Kitchen + Market’s got you.
They focus on an increased amount of greens, thoughtfully-sourced animal products, and avoid added sugar, GMOs, antibiotics, etc.
If you’re trying to follow a vegan or vegetarian diet, no worries. They have menu items just for you.
Good is located near Kennestone Hospital in a 1900s cottage turned cafe. Added bonus? Your pupper is welcome to eat here too!
Another Broken Egg
Again, for a chain restaurant, this place well exceeds the mark and always has a line out the door. Pro tip: You can’t leave here without trying the beignets.
