Whenever I’m looking to take a trip, I always search “Boutique hotels in….” and add wherever I’m going.
Why? you ask.
Well, boutique hotels just have more personality in my humble opinion! Now, don’t get me wrong. There’s something extra special about staying at A Loews or The Ritz, for example. But, let’s be honest, I’m typically not staying at those for a weekend trip.
So, instead of paying a similar price for a Holiday Inn or other mainstream hotel chain, I opt for a boutique hotel. This was no different on my recent overnight stay in Chattanooga Tennessee.
Several options popped up in my Google search including Hotel Kinley, The Edwin Hotel, The Dwell Hotel, and The Moxy Chattanooga Downtown.
I hope to go back to Chattanooga and experience the others in the near future, but for this recent trip, The Moxy had everything I was looking for at a price I was willing to pay for just an overnight stay.
Location
First, the Moxy is located Downtown in Chattanooga. The location is within walking distance of several restaurants and breweries.
The hotel itself has its own trendy bar area located in the lobby and a small coffee shop near the elevators.
The Chattanooga Choo Choo is only 0.2 miles down the street, and something to see if you’ve never been.
If you’re looking for a day outdoors, the Walnut Street Bridge and Coolidge Park are barely 2 miles away and worth an outing.
Parking
Valet parking is available at the front of the hotel. Their QR code/texting system makes it possible to request your car before you even leave your room.
This way, it’s waiting for you by the time you hit the lobby doors. Talk about convenience! That convenience does, however, come at a price of $16/night.
Atmosphere
Atmosphere, aesthetic, personality. Whatever you want to call it, it’s one of the biggest selling points for boutique hotels.
They all have their own vibe and that’s one of the best things about staying at one of these trendy spots.
The Moxy is very hipster with its leather couches, large murals, and Aztec prints. Check-in is at the bar marked with a neon “Check-in” sign and is guarded by a Yoda and stormtrooper..
I mean, c’mon. If that ain’t a vibe, I don’t know what is.
Lobby, Bar & Patio
The lobby offered various leather couches, woven poufs, chairs, and pillows to allow for maximum hang-out space with the bar as the centerpiece.
Games like Connect Four and shuffleboard are available for guests to enjoy and the patio space is open and welcoming.
Rooms
My room size was small but appropriate and I by no means felt cramped. I had read reviews that stated the rooms were absurdly small. I didn’t find this to be the case.
However, I realized later that I was in a wheelchair-accessible room. So, keep this in mind if you require larger rooms when traveling.
When I entered the room, the wall across from the bed was studded with pegs from the door to the window.
I thought this was a brilliant idea for easily hanging clothes, bags, etc. To add space to the room, a collapsable table and stool were hanging on the pegs and could be taken out as needed.
The decor was a simple mix of rustic chic meets urban industrial.
The headboard was leather and fixed to the wall by more wooden pegs. The bed was covered with a grey wool blanket and topped with a pillow that read “Go where you feel most alive.”
The perfect touch.
Bathroom
The matte black fixtures gave the bathroom space a trendy, industrial look.
A giant blue deer wearing sunglasses made its presence greatly known as it took up the entirety of the shower curtain and added a fun, hipster vibe.
Accents of hot pink soap bottles were a nice touch to the otherwise neutrally colored space.
Extras
Something that I found to be extra special was the way the curtains in the room were electronic and controlled by small keypads on the wall.
Both the large draw curtains and a small shade over the bathroom window were equipped with this feature.
The hotel also offered the option to scan a QR code on the tv to access a remote by using your phone rather than the room’s remote.
Because the room was wheelchair accessible, I noticed there were two peepholes on the door, making looking outside the room convenient while both sitting and standing.
The peepholes were covered by small swinging covers as an added security measure.
Speaking of security, I was also happy to see that the elevators required a room keycard.
Many hotel bars and lobbies are visited by people who aren’t overnight guests. This added security helped minimize random people going up to the floors unless they actually have a room there.
Lastly, the hotel also offers a small gym and is pet friendly (for a fee). #winning!
That’s a Wrap!
Overall, I loved our stay at The Moxy. We couldn’t have asked for a better overnight experience and definitely 10/10 would recommend if you need a place to crash in the Scenic City!
Until next week, safe travels, friends!
